The Frank J. Hecker house, located at 5510 Woodward Avenue, was built in 1890 by Scott, Kamper & Scott. Colonel Hecker, who was a veteran of the Civil and Spanish-American Wars, came to Detroit in the railraod business & ended up accumulating a fortune in the manufacturing of railroad cars. He helped organize the Peninsular Car Co. of which he became president. In 1947, the building was sold to and used by the Smiley Brothers Music company. The building was recently rehabilitated under the Federal Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit Program and currently serves as law offices.
